Bingham Dental Practice aims to meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the guidelines on the Information Commissioner’s website as well as maintaining our professional standards and guidelines.

What Information do we collect?
When you join the practice as a patient you will be asked to provide personal information such as Name, Date of Birth, Address and contact details including mobile telephone number and e mail address. We have a lawful basis to collect this data in order to provide you with optimum health care and in order to maintain your health records. These records may be written down or held on a computer.
The categories of data that we process are:
Special category data including health records for the purposes of the delivery of health care.
Personal data for the purposes of direct mail, email and text marketing.
We will never pass your personal details to a third party unless we have a contract for them to process your data on our behalf. Anyone who receives information from us also has a legal obligation to keep your information confidential.
If we intend to refer an individual to another practitioner or to secondary care such as a hospital we will gain the individuals permission prior to the referral being made and personal data is shared. This permission is often verbal in a discussion with the healthcare professional
From time to time we may use your contact information to send you details of products and services offered in our practice that directly relate to your oral healthcare.
The lawful basis for processing special category data such as personal health records is:
“ Processing is necessary for the purpose of preventative or occupational medicine, assessing the working capacity of the employee, medical diagnosis, the provision of health or social care or treatment or management of health or social care systems and services on the basis of Union or Member State Law or a contact with a health professional”

The Dental Professionals involved in your care have accurate and up to date information to assess your oral health and decide on the most appropriate care for you.
Healthcare professionals have the information they need to be able to assess and improve the quality and type of care you receive.
Your concerns are properly investigated if a complaint is raised
Appropriate information is available if you see another dental professional or are referred to a specialist.
The retention period for special data in patients’ records is a minimum of 10years and may be longer in complex records in order to meet our legal requirements. The retention period for other personal data is 2 years after it was last processed.

The right to erasure (clinical records must be retained for a certain period of time)
